On 6 June, in Nampula, the Government handed over agricultural equipment to farmers who benefited from the Sustenta project, implemented by MITADER through the National Sustainable Development Fund (FNDS). These are 20 tractors and all required tools, 15 pick-up trucks and irrigation plants to support their activities.
The ceremony, witnessed by hundreds of people who came to the site, had the honor of his excellency the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, during his visit to Nampula, who expressed his satisfaction and joy with the results of the project within the rural communities.
The handing over of the equipment, aims to continue the stimulus for increase in efficiency of the productive system and productivity, as well as to promotion of the use of agricultural mechanization in the areas covered by SUSTENTA, through the increase in the number of machines to assist in the efforts to introduce and strengthen mechanization services.
Within the objectives to be achieved throughout the initiative, it is hoped that the agricultural marketing will take a different dynamic with Lorries and trailers delivered as a tool to de delivery of agricultural surpluses from the production points to the small commercial farmers' warehouses and emerging points of sale (PACE's).

The ceremony took place at the Sports Hall of the Nampula Railway Club and was attended by members of the government at central, provincial and district levels, as well as representatives from various segments of society, including beneficiaries of SUSTENTA and the private sector.
The SUSTENTA project is part of the portfolio of projects being implemented by MITADER through the National Fund for Sustainable Development (FNDS) with the to improve the quality of life of rural communities, particularly in the 10 selected districts, with five in Nampula and remaining in Zambezia.

From the encouraging results achieved in Nampula and Zambezia government have decided to expand SUSTENTA initiatives to other provinces of the country, aiming to contribute to an effective poverty alleviation through the inclusion of rural families in sustainable value chains (agricultural and non-timber forest products) , as well as in the sustainable management of natural resources in the areas to be covered by SUSTENTA. That said, in the next phase will be expanded to the provinces of Maputo, in the south; Manica and Sofala, in the center, and Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country.
